Ugh:

The university’s interim president, James E. Lyons Sr., had proposed dropping varsity sports as part of a broader package of cuts. But the trustees voted, 7 to 5, to delay action on disbanding intercollegiate sports teams and to seek other ways to find savings, The Washington Post reported.

The board largely supported Mr. Lyons’s proposals for reshaping the curriculum. The 17 undergraduate majors they voted to eliminate included economics, history, physics, and sociology.

I lived in Baltimore/DC for 25 years and had no idea there was such a thing as the University of DC. I especially like this:
“It is critical to the life of a university that there be these types of opportunities,” Shelton said. “Please understand, this is almost a life-or-death question for me.”

Alternative A: NCAA sports; lose $3 million per year
Alternative B: Economics, History, Sociology, Physics; lose less than $3 million per year
    Losing A is death?
How about a move to D3?

The picture at the head of this article tells you all you need to know about athletics at UDC: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/contemplating-a-new-future-many-at-udc-feel-left-behind/2013/11/17/0fb7b4ac-4d37-11e3-9890-a1e0997fb0c0_story.html
I did know there was a UDC, but only because the campus is now part of the name of the metro stop.
