John Whitehead

John C. Whitehead is a Professor of Economics at Appalachian State University whose research focuses on how people value environmental resources and public goods. His work spans coastal policy, recreational fisheries, climate change, and sports economics with particular emphasis on stated and revealed preference methods. He is a Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and co-editor of three books. On this blog, he writes about environmental economics, policy analysis, teaching, research and the intersection of nature and the economy.

His athletic honors include the prestigious “Most Valuable Non-Letterman” and “Best Attitude” awards and numerous Senior Games medals, which he continues to regard as peak John Whitehead.
